What is Passive Fire Protection

The purpose of Passive Fire Protection (PFP) is to contain the spread of fire – giving sufficient time for building occupiers to exit safely and for the fire service to control the fire before it spreads within the building or to neighbouring properties.

We do this by installing systems around fire cells that remain dormant during normal conditions but activate under fire conditions. These systems are designed into the fabric of the building through the use of fire separations.

Over the years, the standards of passive fire protection have increased, and installation methods and project complexity have evolved. As a result, the need to engage a specialist like Advanced Applicators is even more important.

Poorly installed passive fire protection is one of the most common causes of failed inspections on site, rework, and site delays. Issues typically arise from incorrect system selection, incomplete installation, or missing QA documentation at handover.

Advanced Applicators support projects through:

  • Pre-construction Passive Fire design input and specification advice
  • Coordination with other services trades
  • On-site installation of passive fire systems
  • QA documentation and compliance sign-off
